Installation

Download either the 32 bit or 64 bit installation from www.opcsystems.com/downloads.htm.

Run Setup.exe to install one or more of the OPC Systems.NET features. Select the default Typical installation if you are not sure what features to use or the Custom installation if you want to save disk space on the target system.  When prompted agree to the End User License Agreement to continue the installation.

When the installation is finished the OPC Systems Service Control application will appear if the OPC Systems Service was installed.  Use this application to Start the 3 Services.  If this is the first time installing the software it will automatically enter Runtime with an example Tag Configuration.  If you restart the computer the OPC Systems Service will automatically start.  You can change the start mode of the OPC Systems Service using the Service Control Manger built into the operating system.

You can view any of the demonstration example HMI applications or proceed to the Quick Start section to begin setting up your own system.

To connect to OPC Servers you may want to set the Service LogOn to a User Account instead of Local Systems Account.  This depends of course how the OPC Server is setup to run as an Interactive User, Launching User, or under the System Account.  The OPC Systems Service installs to run under the System Account by default.  If your OPC Server can run as a Windows Service this would be the preferred mode as the OPC Systems Service can then obtain data without having a user logged into the operating system.  Some OPC servers will not operate on Windows Server 2003 or Windows Server 2008 unless a user is logged into the system.
