Third Party OPC Clients

You can share data with third party OPC Clients for unlimited local and remote OPC Clients.  OPC Client provides connectivity to unlimited connections to OPC Clients to each licensed OPC Systems Service.  OPC Client.NET eliminates the need for DCOM, so OPC Client connections can be performed over the Internet.

You can use any of the data sources for OPC Systems.NET with the OPC Client.NET product.  The OPCSystems.NET OPC Server can be installed on unlimited remote systems.

Follow the steps below for a simple setup for read and write functions in a third party OPC Client or view the following video.

From the system that contains your OPC Client install either the full installation of OPC Systems.NET or the Custom installation with OPC Client.NET.

Start your third party OPC Client.  In this example we will use the OPC Foundation Sample found under the program group OPC Systems.NET-Tools.

From the Server pull down list select Browse.

Select the local OPC Server OPCSystems.NET.

Create a group subscription by right clicking on the OPCSystems.NET OPC Server.

Enter a Name for the subscription and select Next.

Browse either the Local service or a remote service under the Network branch.

Note: If you wish to specify a registered Internet domain name or IP Address you will need to manually specify the remote node in the OPC Item name in the OPC Client.  It is not possible to browse by IP Address or registered Internet domain name.

Remote OPC Items use the following syntax for the remote OPC Item.

Network.<IP Address, domain name, or network node name>.Tag.Value.

Example: Network.

Browse for your OPC Item to add and double click on it.

Here you will see both OPC Systems.NET tags in the service you are browsing along with the DirectOPC branch you can use to browse directly to OPC Servers on the service node.  DCOM is not used in remote connections.  Networking is over TCP port 58724 and this port number is adjustable under Configure-Options.

Select Next and then Done and the value of the remote item will appear.
